Shillong, Nov 16: Meghalaya won four gold medals in yesterday’s karate events at the SAI Training Centre’s Indoor Stadium here.
Meghalaya won their gold medals through Cheltis Shylla (Junior Boys -55kg kumite), Saralin Rynghang (Women -50kg kumite), Paul Danny Kharmudai (Junior Boys +55kg kumite) and Wandahunshisha Mawblei (Women -55kg kumite).
The hosts were the top state today, with 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze. Arunachal Pradesh had 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze, Manipur 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze, Assam 1 silver and 1 bronze, Sikkim 5 bronze, Mizoram 4 bronze and Tripura 1 bronze.
In judo, which concluded yesterday at the Laban SC Indoor Stadium, Meghalaya finished with 1 gold, which was won by Prem Chettri on the first day. The hosts also claimed 2 silver and 6 bronze medals. Manipur finished first with 7G, 4S, 5B while Arunachal were second with 4G, 5S, 3B.
Tripura won 2 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze, while Assam picked up 1 gold, 1 silver and 6 bronze. Nagaland earned 1 solitary gold medal, while Mizoram earned 2 silver and 8 bronze.
Chettri was named Best Judoka in the male category and Arunachal’s Gegul Gol won the female category equivalent.
In boxing today, which ended at Mawlai Mawroh, Manipur won 7 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze, while Mizoram bagged 5G, 7S, 4B. Meghalaya were third with 2G, 1S, 2B.
Badonkupar Synnah won the men’s 57-60kg category final on points against Arunachal’s Fenia Paffa. Bhalang Shadap then won the gold in the 63.5-67kg men’s category against Lalnunpuia of Mizoram.
The medals table has changed a little since Monday night, with Manipur displacing Assam for first place, while Nagaland have taken fifth from Mizoram. However, the margins are tight and it could all change again by the time of the closing ceremony on Wednesday.
