Shillong, Feb 14: Meghalaya’s Kevin Christopher (pictured) saved one of his best performances for the end of the season as he made 90 against Vidarbha on the third day of their U-25 Col CK Nayudu Trophy match in Nagpur today.
In the end, however, Meghalaya were all out for 157, giving the hosts victory by an innings and 259 runs.
Resuming the day on 18/4, Meghalaya were quickly reduced to a perilous 44/7 but Vidarbha’s hopes of wrapping proceedings up in a hurry were dealt a blow as Christopher and Ram Gurung came together in a 98-run partnership for the eighth wicket.
Number 9 Gurung played a supporting role and resisted for a monumental 149 deliveries, which, to put it into context, is 24.5 overs, and made 32.
Christopher at the other end faced 201 balls for his 90, which included 12 fours. He was on 76 when Gurung got out and managed another 14 runs with the two remaining batters before he fell 10 runs short of a century, the last man out for Meghalaya.
Meghalaya’s campaign in the Col CK Nayudu Trophy thus concluded with six defeats and no points, though with a few memorable performances against some of the best U-25 teams in the entire country.
