Shillong, Mar 14: Manbhakupar Iawphniaw has signed for FC Bengaluru United, TSR learnt yesterday.
Iawphniaw has only just got done with his commitments to the Meghalaya state team, which finished as runners-up in the Santosh Trophy. He played in all six matches of the final round, including the semifinal and title match in Saudi Arabia.
Prior to that, he was with Minerva Academy FC and before that with Mawlai SC during their championship-winning Shillong Premier League 2021-22 run, though the midfielder left for Punjab before the title was wrapped up.
FC Bengaluru United are currently taking part in the Second Division League, the national club tournament below the I-League. Yesterday, they lost their opener 2-1 to Bengaluru FC reserves in Group C.
Last year, at one stage, FCBU had three Meghalaya players – Aenam Jyrwa, Chesterpaul Lyngdoh and Hardy Cliff Nongbri.
While Jyrwa remains, Nongbri has left to rejoin his old Shillong Lajong team and, as far as we can see, Lyngdoh hasn’t been in action for a few weeks and he is not listed as part of United’s Second Division squad.
