Shillong, Mar 16: Officials from the Meghalaya State Olympic Association called on the new Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, Shakliar Warjri, in his office chambers here today.
During this first meeting, a number of issues were discussed, including the programmes conducted jointly by the government department and the MSOA.
Warjri, a first-time MLA, is, as per the MSOA constitution, also the new ex-officio President of the association.
He was invited by MSOA Working President John F Kharshiing and General Secretary Finely L Pariat to visit the MSOA office in Polo Ground so as to meet with representatives of the affiliated sports associations. Warjri agreed to visit once the ongoing budget session of the Assembly concludes.
The meeting was also attended by senior MSOA officials like Matsiewdor War Nongbri, Dipshon Ryntathiang, P Laloo, EMH Passah, Archery Association of Meghalaya Secretary Paia War Nongbri and Olympian Ian Campbell.
Campbell is leading a large-scale talent identification drive across the state, while the Archery Association is soon to host a national ranking tournament here in Shillong.
