Shillong, Mar 29: It was a bowlers’ day on the first day of the second semifinal in the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-15 Inter District Cricket Tournament 2023 between Tura District Cricket Association and West Jaintia Hills DCA in Umbuda, Ri-Bhoi, today.
WJH won the toss and chose to field first, with their opponents all out for 125 in the first innings. WJH then made 152/10 in their first innings before Tura finished on 24 without loss in their second, trailing by a mere 3 runs.
Namewanki Pakyntein (pictured left) captured 5/26 in another excellent spell for WJH. While four Tura batters got starts, none was able to pass Trijal Agarwal’s mark of 28.
In their first innings, WJH lost three wickets in under 10 overs but Maremdorkini Sutnga steadied the ship with an unbeaten 54 from 86 deliveries, which got his team above TDCA’s total. Manthan Gupta (pictured right), a consistent bowler for Tura, bagged a five-for of his own, taking 5/36.
Tura had to bat for 5 overs before stumps but Aritra Paul (15 not out) and Agatchu Chetai K Marak (9 not out) saw the team to the end of play without loss, with both teams having all to play for on the second and final day tomorrow.
The winner of this match will progress to the final where they will face Shillong Cricket Association-A, who defeated East Garo Hills DCA in the first semifinal on Monday.
