Shillong, Aug 6: Luckystar Lawai has been named as one of Jamshedpur FC’s four goalkeepers for the ongoing Durand Cup 2023.
Lawai, of Mawryngkneng, played for Ryntih SC in last year’s Shillong Premier League.
Indian Super League club Jamshedpur are in Group B of the tournament and will play their first match on 8th August against Mumbai City FC. Jamshedpur have picked an all-Indian squad for the Durand Cup 2023.
The young goalie was part of the sub-junior boys team that were runners-up in the National Football Championship in 2017. He was also adjudged Best U-15 Goalkeeper at the State Level Mission Football Meghalaya Open Tournament in 2018.
In mid-2019, Lawai was selected as one of just 10 Indian footballers (and the only one from Meghalaya) to receive a full three-year scholarship from Tata Trusts to train at the Atletico Madrid Academy in Spain.
His relationship with Tata continues as Jamshedpur FC is owned by Tata Steel. He had also featured for the club in the Reliance Foundation Development League earlier this year.
