Shillong, Sep 7: A third win in as many games today ensured that Meghalaya progressed to the semifinals of the Girls’ Sub-Junior National Footy Championship in style.

With a 3-2 result against Chhattisgarh in Amritsar, Meghalaya finished on top of Group C with a full 9 points.

Chhattisgarh had lost both of their previous matches, so Meghalaya would’ve started the favourites today and they went 2-0 up by the end of the first half thanks to goals from Wanrihun Kharnaior (34′) and Bonifilia Shullai (45’+2).

However, Chhattisgarh came right back in the second half with two goals via Naveena Mourya (52′) and Amritha Baghel (77′). Although a draw would have been sufficient for Meghalaya to top the group on points, they looked to take the lead again and got it with an 86th minute goal from Larihun Songthiang.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya sub-junior boys were also involved today against Karnataka and they won that contest 4-2 in Malda, West Bengal. However, Uttar Pradesh had already booked their place in the semis from Group A after beating both Meghalaya and Karnataka to qualify from the three-team group.
