Shillong, Oct 12: Alison Kharsyntiew has been named as the assistant coach of Mohammedan Sporting for the I-League 2023-24.

This was revealed by the club on social media recently.

Kharsyntiew’s boss will be Russian head coach Andrey Chershynov. Mohammedan will play their first match at home at the Naihati Stadium against Aizawl FC on 29th October.

Kharsyntiew joined Mohammedan’s reserve team as head coach as well as “custodian” of the club’s youth development programme, it was announced back in July.

Kharsyntiew came on board with the Black Panthers after a stint at the Sports Authority of India as a coach/technical director, which he joined in the first half of last year.

Before that, he was assistant manager of NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League. He joined the Highlanders’ set-up in December 2020. The team reached the semifinals of the 2020-21 edition but were second from the bottom a year later.

Kharsyntiew was most well known, locally at least, from his time at Shillong Lajong FC, where he has coached youth teams all the way up to the I-League outfit.

While with Lajong he passed the AFC A Licence course in 2019.
