Shillong, Dec 5: Badon Sing Tham and Ibameri Shullai won the men’s and women’s 10km races in the 50-59 age category at the Guwahati Half Marathon on Sunday.
Tham crossed the finish line in 39 minutes, 42 seconds, followed by Ramesh Chamlegi in second and Brig Hari Kirpal Singh in third.
In the corresponding women’s event, Shullai was ahead of Soniya Sharma and Vihaya Gupta in second and third respectively.
There was another winner from the state – James Tamang won the 60-69 age category for men in the 10km run. Kmoin Wahlang, now well into her 70s, also took part and is said to have won in her age group but she is often the only one in her category anyway.
In the women’s 10km 40-44 age category, first place was claimed by Bandana Baruah, followed by Benita Nongrum in second and Basanti Sonar in third.
Starina Jasain finished second in the 21km half marathon women’s event for those above 50 years old.
In the 25-29 age category for women in the 10km race, Dakahi Kyndait came third.
More than 5,000 runners took part in the various categories in the 5km, 10km and 21km events.
