Shillong, Dec 20: Thirteen teams will take part in the Shillong Sports Association’s U-16 Football League 2023 for boys, which is set to begin on 8th January, it was announced yesterday.
However, just two of the top Shillong Premier League clubs are taking part – Mawlai SC and Rangdajied United FC – which is somewhat disappointing to see.
The 13 teams have been divided up into two groups.
Group A, consisting of seven sides, comprises Lah Bet FC (formerly Kickstart Football Coaching Centre), Lumshyiap SC, Mawreng SC, Upper Shillong Colts, Rangdajied United FC, Mawpat SC and Merinda FC.
Group B contains six teams – Umpling SC, Pay For Right Football Academy, Iatylli SC, Mawlai SC, Umphyrnai SC and Shillong Soccer Scouts.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the semifinals.
Matches will be of 60 minutes’ duration. The champions will be awarded a cheque of Rs 15,000 and the runners-up Rs 7,500.
Teams had to submit their players’ names and have them undergo screening on 15th December. It was mandatory for each team to have a minimum of 16 players to pass the medical test that day to be eligible for participation.
