Shillong, Aug 6: Madanrting SC held off a late challenge from Nongthymmai Raitnongkynrih SC to win the third quarterfinal of the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division 2024 2-1 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
Reaching the semifinals also means that Madanrting have secured promotion to next season’s Third Division.
Bankyrshan Ryndong, Madanrting’s top scorer this season and second overall in the league, put his side into the lead in the 11th minute; he now has 6 goals to his name. It took until late in the match before Madanrting got their second, through Sparlington Thongni (64′) but Nongthymmai were throwing everything they could by this point to get back into the contest.
They finally managed to pull one back through Sengrak Jana (70’+1), who scored in stoppage time of the 70-minute match but Madanrting were able to hold off Nongthymmai and take victory.
Tomorrow will witness the last of the four quarterfinals, between Laitumkhrah SC and Madan SCC at 3:45PM at First Ground.
