Shillong, Jan 5: A tripartite lease was signed to acquire a 5.93 acre plot to develop into a standard cricket ground with all required facilities in West Jaintia Hills.
The agreement was signed between the Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun, West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association and Meghalaya Cricket Association on Saturday.
Developing dedicated cricket infrastructure is one of the highest priorities of the MCA over the past few years, with the aim to further popularise and encourage local cricket talents in rural areas covering all districts where land identification is facilitated by the affiliated district association.
The Mukhla land was identified at the initiative of the WJHDCA with the support of local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, who is an ardent cricket enthusiast, and cooperation of the Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun.
The signing agreement was presided by WJHDCA President Eddystone Shylla and was attended by the MLA, MCA President Naba Bhattacharjee, MCA Vice-President Rayonald Kharkamni, MCA Honorary Treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria, WJHDCA Secretary Weibor Sohlang, Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun President Hamran Shylla and General Secretary Hachwa Suna, among others.
Bhattacharjee expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun for its generosity in agreeing to hand over the land, which is a few kilometres from the nearest highway, which will enable good communication and logistics.
Prior to the signing, the entire team inspected the site and expressed satisfaction of the location and land configuration suitable for cricket. A standard football stadium is also under construction in an adjacent plot. The MCA is committed to support all such initiatives to strengthen the promotion of cricket at the grassroots level on a sustained basis, the association said in a press release today.
