Shillong, Sep 19: Mawpat needed penalties to deal with Smit in the fourth and last quarterfinal of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2025 at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today.
After full time ended 0-0, Mawpat won the resulting tiebreaker 7-6. Mawpat thus joined Mylliem Lum, Mawryngkneng and Laitkyrhong in the semifinals, which will take place on 22nd and 23rd September.
Meanwhile, the earlier relegation group match between Umphrup and Umpling was thoroughly entertaining in its own right.
Umpling held a two-goal lead thanks to a brace by Busil Lyngshing (28′, 44′). However, Umphrup fought their way back and scored four goals thanks to Damanglang Kharbangar (44′, 50′), Nangskhemlang Wahlang (58′) and Nangpynkhraw Kshiar (73′).
Having lost to Umphyrnai 2-1 on 16th September, Umpling will definitely be one of the two teams to be relegated to next season’s Third Division.
The fight remains between Umphrup and Umphyrnai. They will meet on 22nd September to decided which team joins Umpling in dropping down. Currently Umphrup have a goal difference of +2 while Umphyrnai’s is +1. That means that Umphrup only need a draw to be safe.
