Shillong, Apr 30: B Kyrmenskhem Lyngdoh has completed the Basic Mountaineering Course conducted at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) in Darjeeling where he also secured first place in the sport climbing competition.
This was informed by the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) today.
Kyrmenskhem is a resident of Upper Lumparing and a student of Shillong College. The course ran from 1st to 28th April and his attendance was sponsored by the Directorate General of Assam Rifles, Laitkor.
During the course, Kyrmenskhem also summited Mt Renok as part of the height-gaining training, demonstrating his strength, skill and determination.
After weeks of rigorous and disciplined training in the mountains, the trainees completed their first significant step into the world of mountaineering.
The course provided comprehensive exposure to essential mountaineering skills, including rock climbing, ice craft, route navigation and survival in high-altitude conditions. Beyond technical expertise, the training instilled confidence, resilience and a strong sense of teamwork among the participants, MeSCMA said in a press release today.
The event concluded with inspiring words from the officiating principal, Capt Neeraj Kumar, who encouraged the graduates to continue their journey with determination, humility and a deep respect for nature.
