Shillong, Mar 28: Nongrim Hills and Kingsmen won the women’s and men’s titles respectively at the Meghalaya Open Basketball Championship, the finals of which were held here today.

The tournament, which began on 23rd March, was organised by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society as a way of highlighting risk factors, dangers and ways to prevent HIV/AIDS.

TSR missed the women’s final, but we managed to grab some photos of the men’s title match. Kingsmen are in red, Happy Valley yellow

In the women’s final Nongrim Hills defeated Tyllilang 49-32, while it was more one-sided in the men’s final that followed, where Kingsmen scored 68 points to Happy Valley’s 36.

There were 24 participating teams, out of which 19 were in the men’s category and five in the women’s. The winning teams each received Rs 30,000, with Rs 15,000 going to each of the runners-up.

Additional Chief Secretary PW Ingty and Sports & Youth Affairs Director Matsiewdor War Nongbri were the main dignitaries on the final day.
