Shillong, Aug 11: There was truly dreadful news today as two brothers – Mickson and Cleverson Kshiar – were killed after lightning struck a football match they were playing in at Makrein, Mawsnapwir, in West Khasi Hills.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 3PM. Five others, including officials, were also injured. The match was being played as part of the Independence Cup being organised ahead of 15th August.

Mickson (18) and Cleverson (19) were residents of Lawrapha village in WKH.

Police said heavy rain suddenly started during the match and was followed by lightning. The brothers were playing for the Lawrapha team, who were facing Marskuin.

The injured were rushed to Nongstoin’s Civil Hospital and St Joseph Hospital for treatment.
