Shillong, Sep 14: Mawpat defeated Smit 4-2 in the first semifinal of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2026 here today, with three red cards shown after a coming together of players in the first half itself.

Sylvan Langstieh (29′), Dajiedlang Wanshnong (48′, 49′) and Donbok Lyngdoh (73′) scored for Mawpat before Smit responded with two goals via Batskhemlang Thangkhiew (74′) and Apburom Nongrum (87′).

In rainy conditions, a foul by a Mawpat player on one from Smit led to the situation going out of control, with players (even those on the bench) confronting each other. The match officials were in consultations for an extended period before referee Pynskhemhame Mawthoh sent off three players – one from Mawpat, two from Smit (including one player on the bench). Three others received yellow cards.

It was an unsightly scene but the stakes were certainly high. With victory, Mawpat will be in the final on 19th September and they have also secured promotion to next season’s First Division.

The second semifinal will take place tomorrow between Sohryngkham and Mawryngkneng at 2:45PM.
