Shillong, Oct 12: Half-centuries by Meghalaya captain Kishan Lyngdoh and Swastic Chettri (pictured right and left) brought the team to within a few runs of Sikkim’s first innings total on the second day of their Ranji Trophy 2026-27 plate group match in Rangpo, Sikkim, today.
In response to Sikkim’s 245 all out yesterday, Meghalaya resumed today morning on 2/0 and finished the day on 238/5, trailing by just 7 runs and with five wickets in hand.
The hosts made use of early conditions to reduce Meghalaya to 38/3 but Kishan then held the line with an excellent 78 (10x4s) from 160 deliveries.
He put on 89 for the fifth wicket with Swastic and the latter finished the day not out on 72 (9x4s), which was made from a patient 202 deliveries. This is his second first-class fifty and he will be aiming to go all the way and get his maiden ton tomorrow. Out in the middle with Swastic at stumps was the feisty left-handed batter Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva, who was unbeaten on 33 (76 balls, 2x4s).
The most successful bowler on the Sikkim side was one of their guest players, Kranthi Kumar, who took 3/43 in 18 overs. Palzor Tamang (2/47 in 19) claimed the other two wickets to fall.
Just 7 runs shy, Meghalaya’s first task on the third day tomorrow will be to overtake Sikkim’s total and then push on for as big a lead as possible.
