Shillong, Jun 24: A sensational fight by Meghalaya saw them overturn a 5-3 deficit to win 6-5 right at the end of their match against Telangana in Group C of the Junior Girls National Football Championship in Guwahati today.

Telangana had lost all three of their previous matches but almost bagged three points against Meghalaya. All five of their goals were scored by Tanvi R, who put Telangana into the lead in the very first minute before Makrisha Songthiang got the first goal of her hat-trick in the 15th.

Two more strikes by Tanvi saw Telangana go into half time leading 3-1 but Meghalaya scored the first two goals of the second half, through Songthiang (62′) and Ribahunshisha Kharshiing (72′), only to see Telangana retake the lead a minute later.

By this stage the scoreboard read 4-3 in Telangana’s favour and Tanvi added her fifth and final goal of the day in the 78th minute.

Meghalaya, however, were not done and stormed back with three goals in the space of seven minutes via Ishalin Nongrum (81′), Napaleroiki Lytan (85′) and Songthiang (88′) to bag victory.

This result puts them second in the Group C on 6 points from three outings and they have one last group match to go against Delhi on Sunday. Meghalaya had claimed their first victory against Madhya Pradesh on 20th June.
