Shillong, Sep 26: Despite chasing just 212 for victory Meghalaya lost to Bihar by 108 runs in their Vijay Hazare Trophy plate group match in Vadodara, Gujarat, today.
Choosing to field first after winning the toss proved to be the right decision for Meghalaya, it appeared, as Bihar were restricted to just 211/9 in 50 overs.
Anshuman Gautam top-scored for Bihar with 40 before being run out by Lakhan Singh. Lakhan also effected one more run out and took 2/36 for Meghalaya. Gurinder Singh (2/32), Abhay Negi (2/48) and Dipu Sangma (1/23) were Meghalaya’s other wicket takers.
Despite the relatively small target, Meghalaya struggled to get going with the bat, with the openers once again failing to make an impact. This time, however, even Punit Bisht at number three couldn’t save the day, as he fell for a four-ball duck.
Gurinder and Yogesh Nagar had the same top score of 22 and Meghalaya were bowled out for just 103 in 42.5 overs. Samar Quadri claimed 5/22 for victorious Bihar.
