Shillong, June 14: Manipur’s boys began their quest for Assam Rifles CAPF Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament glory with a resounding 3-0 victory over hosts Meghalaya at the JN Stadium, here, today afternoon.

Today marked the inaugural day of the second phase of the nationwide tournament, dubbed Oorja, which is featuring six North East states – Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Nagaland – in girls’ and boys’ divisions. The best players from the state-wide tournaments held last month have been selected for this event. The six states will be vying for beautiful trophies that have been named in honour of a legendary North East footballer – the late Dr Talimeran Ao.

The other boys’ match, played between Arunachal and Mizoram in Pool B in the morning, ended in a goalless draw.

Tomorrow will feature two girls’ games: Mizoram vs Tripura at 1PM and Manipur vs Arunachal at 3:30PM.
