Shillong, Mar 28: Eastern Sporting Union moved to the top of the seven-team Indian Women’s League table with their second win at the JN Stadium here today.

The reigning champions edged last year’s finalists Rising Students Club 1-0 in the first match of the tournament played under floodlights. The two sides showed just how strong they are in an entertaining contest, with the teams separated only by ESU’s solitary goal, which came about in the third minute through Irom Prameshwori Devi.

In the earlier fixture, Indira Gandhi Academy secured a late goal to win 2-1 over India Rush Soccer Club.

Indira Gandhi Academy went ahead in the 15th minute through Pradeepa, but parity was restored soon after through Dalima. It then took until the 74th minute before Sandhiya secured the winning goal for IGA.

Meanwhile, KRYPHSA beat Sethu 5-0 yesterday. Ratanbala Devi scored a brace, with individual goals by Bala Devi, Dangmei Grace and Asharani Devi.

There will be just the one match tomorrow, between Sethu and Gokulam Kerala at 11AM. Both sides were defeated in their opening fixtures and will therefore look to push even more for a victory.
