Shillong, Jun 30: Nongkyndong FC were crowned champions of the Super 5 five-a-side football tournament here today after they defeated Precious FC 5-1 in the final.

Precious FC scored the opening goal, but had no answer to prolific scorer Robert Khongjoh, who was on the scoresheet again today and took his tally of goals in the tournament to 21, making him the top scorer.

Nongkyndong FC thus take home the trophy and winners’ cheque of Rs 40,000. Khongjoh claimed another Rs 5,000 as the top scorer.

The week-long tournament was attended by thousands of spectators, and the semifinals and final were played in front of packed houses. Cheerleaders and a freestyle football competition were spectacles that added to the boisterous atmosphere inside the Madan Iewrynghep ground.

A young and talented individual from Smit, Nicholas Kharumnuid, whose video of football tricks TSR shared on our Facebook page recently, won first place in the freestyle competition.
