Shillong, Jul 2: A seventh minute goal from George Nongrang was all that separated Sawmer and Shillong Lajong today, but that was enough for the former to secure three more points that took them to the top of the provisional points table of the U-18 Shillong Premier League.
Nongrang’s goal was the second fastest for Sawmer and the fourth-fastest of any team this season.
This was also the third straight victory for newbies Sawmer and fourth match unbeaten as the team recover from a shaky start to their campaign where they lost two out of their first three outings, including the reverse fixture against Lajong.
On the other hand, out of SLFC’s last four games they have only managed one victory – a bruising 3-2 battle against Nangkiew Irat last week.
Sawmer are now top of the table with 13 points, while Lajong are third on 11.
Meanwhile, on Saturday Langsning inflicted a maiden defeat on Rangdajied United, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Hamboy Lyngdoh and Figo Syndai. The latter is the tournament’s current top scorer with four goals to his name. This was also the first match this season that Langsning did not concede a goal.
