Shillong, Jul 6: Langsning shrugged off Wednesday’s draw against Malki to beat Nangkiew Irat 2-1 in the U-18 Shillong Premier League here today, which takes them to top spot with 15 points.
An own goal in only the second minute put Langsning into the lead. This was the 50th goal of the season, fourth own goal and second conceded by Nangkiew.
The fifth-placed team fought hard to get back into the contest and equalised through Hiamdorlang Mairom early into the second half. Mairom is the lead scorer in the competition and has scored five of Nangkiew’s seven goals.
However, just five minutes later Langsning retook the lead with Mediphrangki Pohleng’s maiden goal in the 64th minute and held on right to the final whistle. The reverse fixture on 15th June finished 1-1.
Langsning have now leapfrogged into first place on 15 points, ahead of Sawmer (14) and Rangdajied United (13).
Tomorrow reigning champions Shillong Lajong (11) will take on bottom club Malki at 3:45PM. Lajong won the reverse fixture by a comfortable four goals to nil, but even if they do the double tomorrow they’ll still be a point short of Langsning.
