Shillong, Jan 4: Three players hailing from Meghalaya – (pictured from left) Joy Mrong Kharraswai, Eijingmut Lyngdoh and Stephanson Pale – have been signed by Mohammedan Sporting of Kolkata in the run-up to the club’s Second Division League 2018-19 (I-League qualifiers) campaign.
Kharraswai and Lyngdoh had been part of Laban’s successful promotion to the Shillong Premier League after winning the First Division at the end of 2018, while Stephanson Pale had also featured for the club in the Rani Motors Knockout Football Tournament, but is more well known for playing for Langsning.
Pale, a young winger, had been at Langsning when they won the SPL in 2017 and then continued to play for them when the Shillong club had taken part in the last season of the Second Division League. He scored three goals in that competition, including one against Mohammedan. He was absent for the 2018 SPL after being taken on by ATK.
Kharraswai has been part of the Laban setup for some time, but has also been a journeyman player for various other sides. Lyngdoh, meanwhile, had signed up to Laban ahead of the local 2018 football season from the defunct Shillong United.
Mohammedan had reportedly been impressed by the quality of Laban when both clubs had taken part in recent tournaments in Assam.
The Kolkata-based side are one of the oldest football clubs in India. They had last qualified for the I-League in 2013-14 but were relegated at the end of that season.
