Shillong, Jan 6: Darishisha Iangjuh (pictured left) got her 2019 off to a terrific start with second place in the women’s open category of the Chennai Marathon today.
Iangjuh, who is supported by RunMeghalaya, finished the full marathon (41.195km) in a personal best time of 3 hours, 10 minutes and 9 seconds, which was less than three minutes behind the race winner – Zenash Bekele Mabo of Ethiopia (3:07:46) – RunMeghalaya said through an email today. Third place went to V Eswaran of Tamil Nadu.
As runner-up Iangjuh takes home a cheque of Rs 90,000.
RunMeghalaya will also be entering runners in the Mumbai Marathon on 20th January and the Kolkata Marathon on 3rd February.
In addition, Tlanding Wahlang is set to represent India at the World Ultra Trail Championship in Portugal in May, RunMeghalaya informed. Wahlang and Iangjuh had, incidentally, won 2018’s 72km Mawkyrwat Ultra men’s and women’s ultra-marathons respectively.
