Shillong, Feb 13: The Shillong Sports Association has called for interested parties to bid for a place in the Shillong Premier League 2019.
In a press release today, the SSA said that a public auction through the closed bid offer system will be used to allocate the place. Interested bidders can contact the SSA from Thursday for details and terms and conditions. The last opportunity to submit offers is by 3PM on 25th February.
The auction is necessitated by Shillong United’s pulling out of football in 2018 prior to the SPL. The SSA had tried to auction the vacant spot last year only around six weeks before the SPL began and it proved to be unsuccessful.
Thus only seven teams took part in the tournament, with Langsning emerging as victors.
Clubs last year had wanted just one team to be relegated and two promoted from the First Division, but the SSA was adamant in wanting to auction off the empty spot.
Meghalaya Police and Sawmer were relegated at the end of the last season, with Laban and Nongrim Hills gaining promotion from the First Division for the SPL 2019 season.
