Shillong, Mar 12: Former India international Renedy Singh has been named by Manipur-based club NEROCA as their new coach.
The announcement was made today, with Renedy replacing Spaniard Manuel Retamero, who had led NEROCA since June.
Renedy, a Manipur local, had played for numerous clubs, such as East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Shillong Lajong and made over 50 appearances for India. He is now an A-Licence coach, NEROCA says. If you have been watching the I-League, you would have also heard Renedy as a match commentator on several occasions.
“Glad to have signed for NEROCA FC. Looking forward to work with the players,” Renedy Singh was quoted as saying by the club.
Under Retamero NEROCA finished I-League 2018-19 (their second season in the competition) in sixth place, down on their second place in 2017-18 under Gift Raikhan.
NEROCA won seven games and lost eight this season, but their sixth-placed finish was good enough for the club to secure a direct place in the upcoming Super Cup. NEROCA will meet Indian Super League side NorthEast United in the Round of 16 on 3rd April.
