Shillong, Mar 13: A wheelchair basketball introductory camp began today at Laban Indoor Stadium with 11 men and 11 women taking part.
It was inaugurated by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Matsiewdor War Nongbri in the presence of Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India Secretary General Kalyani Rajaraman. The camp is being conducted in partnership with the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District Sports Promotion Society and Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Ltd.
Captain Louis George Meprath and Krishnanand are the coaches.
Bethany Society helped to mobilise players and Shishu Sarothi from Assam helped with sports wheelchairs. All participants were also given awareness on the election process, specifically for the disabled.
After the coaching camp there will be an exhibition match on 14th March at 4PM at the same venue. All are welcome to come watch the game and cheer on the players. Entry is free.
