Shillong, May 22: Alwinson Bareh, a local boy from Meghalaya, and his team Reliance Foundation Young Champs won the Sub-Junior League (formerly U-13 Youth League) by beating Bengaluru FC 3-0 in the final in Goa today.

Bareh (pictured wearing No. 21) didn’t play in the final, but did feature in seven other matches for RFYC during their campaign this season and scored one goal, which came in his side’s last match of the pre-semifinal round.

RFYC were unbeaten over the entire length of the tournament.

Then 11 years old, Bareh was selected by Reliance Foundation Young Champs for its residential academy based in Navi Mumbai last year.

He is on a full football scholarship, which includes education, accommodation, equipment, etc.

Bareh was also part of the Shillong Lajong team that took part in the U-12 BRICS International Youth Football Tournament, which was held in China in 2017.
