Shillong, May 24: RunMeghalaya announced today that the third edition of the Mawkyrwat Ultra will be held on 25th and 26th October and will feature a 100km ultra-marathon in addition to its usual 30km, 45km and 72km events.
More than 150 runners took part in last year’s races in South West Khasi Hills district.
The Mawkyrwat Ultra is certified by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA), the body governing international trail races, with the 72km an ITRA Level 2 race and 45km an ITRA Level 1 race. This event is also an Ultra Trail Mont-Blanc (UTMB) qualifying race. This means that any runner who wishes to gain UTMB points in order to qualify to the prestigious UTMB races can use Mawkyrwat Ultra as a platform to achieve those points. Runners get one point for the 45km race and two points for the 72km.
The ITRA level and UTMB points for the new 100km run will be informed later, according to a RunMeghalaya post on social media.
