Shillong, May 29: An 89th minute goal by Densil Kongwang brought joy to Mawkhar as they defeated Rangdajied United 1-0 in the U-18 Shillong Premier League at Third Ground, Polo, today.

On a damp pitch with rain falling in the first half, Kongwang went just over the bar at the start of the second 45 minutes before a Rangdajied United goal was overturned for offside.

The lone goal that actually counted came about after Mawkhar got into a dangerous position in the RUFC box. There were a couple of attempts on goal that were blocked, but the ball then fell to Kongwang, who fired the ball into the back of the net.

Rangdajied then tried desperately to get back into the contest, but it was Mawkhar who almost doubled the lead but Banehskhem Khongsdam’s powerful strike was palmed over the crossbar by Rangdajied goalkeeper Reward Starfield Shadap.

This was the first defeat for Rangdajied in three games and the first time they failed to keep a clean sheet. Mawkhar, meanwhile, will be grinning from ear to ear. They are unbeaten after three outings and are currently leading the standings with seven points.

Tomorrow Nongrim Hills are scheduled to take on Lawsohtun at 3:45PM. Both sides are still looking for their first win of the season.
