Shillong, Jun 13: Green Age Club got their Fourth Division campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory over Lumpyngngad in Group B at Second Ground, Polo, today.
Hame Khongphai (pictured celebrating his goal) scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute.
The two sides were quite well matched, but Green Age had the better chances in the goalless first half of the 70-minute match.
Five minutes into the second half and Aibanrap Dohling ran up the left and turned in a fantastic cross for Khongphai on the right. He was unmarked but Lumpyngngad’s Franky Marboh tried to close him down, but Khongphai wasted no time in releasing a shot that went to the right of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Minutes later Green Age substitute Balasuklang Risaw was on the receiving end of another good cross, but his header went just over the crossbar.
Lumpyngngad then turned into the attacking team with the match drawing to a close but, though they came close on occasion, couldn’t find the equaliser. Their best chance saw some frantic defending by Green Age before one of the defenders managed to clear a shot off the goal line.
Tomorrow, in Group A, Nongrah are scheduled to meet Madanrting at 4PM.
