Shillong, Jun 24: Umthli Higher Secondary School, District War Sepngi HSS and H Elias Memorial HSS emerged as champions of the district-level Subroto Cup football tournament for East Khasi Hills at the JN Stadium here today.
In the first of three matches that were very close affairs, Umthli edged Iewrynghep HSS 1-0 in the U-17 girls’ final. The lone goal was scored by Mirable Kharwanlang in the 27th minute.
Next followed the U-14 boys’ final, which ended the same way in favour of District War Sepngi with Wanteilang Lyngdoh providing the goal in the 15th minute against OM Roy HSS.
The U-17 boys’ final was even tighter and H Elias Memorial and Shillong College had to be prised apart using a penalty shootout, which the former won 4-3.
The trophies and medals were distributed by Sports & Youth Affairs Assistant Director Hering Shangpliang, East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer Daniel Dann, H Elias Memorial Principal Ft Sebastian Palatty and Vice-Principal Ft Carmel Myrthong, and Meghalaya Football Players Association President Cliff Nongrum.
