Shillong, Jul 1: Shillong Lajong moved clear at the top of the U-18 Shillong Premier League with a 1-0 win over Nongrim Hills at Third Ground, Polo, today.
In changing weather conditions Lajong scored via a penalty after a Nongrim handball in the box. Dajied Wanshnong (pictured No. 15) converted the spot kick in the 36th minute, giving him his second goal through a penalty this season.
Lajong also had a flood of corners come their way, but they failed to make any of these count. Nongrim had chances of their own as well, but seemed reluctant to take a shot from outside the box and they were invariably foiled once they got close to the Lajong citadel.
SLFC could’ve gone 2-0 up late in the second half, but Nongrim goalkeeper Brilliant Thabah made a sharp save from close range.
Lajong now have 22 points from eight matches; this was their seventh win in a row. They are two points ahead of both Langsning and Mawkhar and still have a game in hand.
The second match of the day will be held between Marbisu and Rangdajied United at 3:45PM.
