Shillong, Jul 5: Smit and Nangkiew Irat played out a 1-1 draw in their U-18 Shillong Premier League match at Third Ground, Polo, today.

After a goalless first half Smit took the lead through Pynkhlainborlang Nongrum in the 55th minute, but Nangkiew found a way back in the 77th. A free-kick in a dangerous position was blocked by the Smit goalie, but the ball fell into place for Albert Nongsiej to head in the rebound for his seventh goal of the season. Nongsiej has now scored in five of Nangkiew’s last six matches.

Although Nangkiew had a mathematical chance of reaching the top two at the start of the week, other results in the last few days made it impossible for them to get there even before today’s fixture.

It’s an absolutely massive game tomorrow between top two contenders Langsning and Rangdajied United at Third Ground at 3:45PM. Defending champions Langsning just need a draw to secure a place in the final, while Rangdajied need to win.

It will be Langsning’s last round robin match and they already have 23 points. Rangdajied, meanwhile, have two games to go and have 19 points.
