Shillong, Oct 26: Ryntih held off some late Nangkiew Irat pressure for a 2-1 victory in the Shillong Premier League at the JN Stadium here today.
In the first leg Nangkiew had defeated Ryntih 2-1 on 30th September.
Today Manbha Iawphniaw scored off a corner in the sixth minute followed by Sheen Sohktung in the 43rd.
Pynche Tyngkan then pulled a goal back via a long-range free-kick in the 68th minute.
The early corner was taken short by Sohktung to Allen Lyngdoh Nongbri and the former then delivered the ball into the box where the unmarked Iawphniaw headed into the net. This was the fastest goal of the season.
The second goal was even better with Andy Mawthoh holding the ball in the Nangkiew box well before finding Sohktung, who leapt into the air to power the ball over the line for his fifth goal of SPL 2019.
Nangkiew were better in the second half and finally found a goal when Tyngkan slammed a free-kick home. It looked a little too far out for an attempt, but that didn’t deter Tyngkan.
Ryntih held onto the lead, however, to register their fourth win. Victory moves them back above Langsning to third (14 points to 13). Meanwhile, although this was a stronger performance than in some of their more recent matches, it was still Nangkiew’s fourth consecutive defeat and they remain stuck in the relegation zone on eight points.
On Monday Shillong Lajong are scheduled to face Nongrim Hills at 2:45PM.
