Shillong, Jan 1: Shillong College marched their way into the semifinal stage of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports 2019-20 National Football Finals by roundly defeating Indore Christian College 7-2 in Navi Mumbai.
Phrangki Buam and Samuel Lyngdoh Kynshi scored a brace each, with the other goals for Shillong College coming via Bankit Nongrum, Teiban Khongkai and Robert Khongjoh.
With this win Shillong College have finished at the top Group A with two wins and a draw.
As happened in the previous two games, Shillong College conceded first, today in the 13th minute. Buam got the first of his goals exactly a minute later when a Khongjoh cross close to the goalmouth was spilled by the Indore goalkeeper, allowing Buam to score.
Shillong College then earned a corner kick soon after, which was taken short, and Kynshi delivered a blinder of a shot from outside the box on the left flank to make it 2-1 for Shillong College.
The Shillong boys extended their lead towards the end of the first half when Nongrum took a one-touch shot from inside the box upon receiving a pass from Buam in the 44th minute.
In the second half Shillong College added to their goal tally with Kynshi scoring again in the 52nd minute and Buam smashed in his second goal in the 65th.
Indore pulled a goal back eight minutes later to make it 5-2, but Shillong College weren’t done scoring yet.
A few minutes after coming on as a substitute Khongkai got his name on the scoreboard after Indore gave away the ball close to their penalty box. Buam steered it to the right into the path of Khongkai, who toed the ball powerfully into the back of the net despite clattering into Buam.
Another sub, Banraplang Nongsteng, then provided the assist that brought about the final goal, crossing the ball to his right for Khongjoh to nail into the net to make it 7-2 and send Shillong College into the semis.
