Shillong, Jan 23: Six United FC defeated former champions Eastern Pirates 3-0 in their quarterfinal match of the 6th Mawten Invitation Football Tournament yesterday.
Six United scored their first goal in the 14th minute after a missed back pass by Eastern Pirates, which went straight to striker Wilbert Marbaniang and he sent the ball into the net.
In the second half Eastern Pirates fought back and pressed hard in the opponents’ half but couldn’t find the back of the net as Six United’s defensive line held them off.
The other two goals were scored in the 75th and 85th minutes through counterattacks by Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw.
Bathskhem Thangkhiew (pictured) of Six United was named man-of-the-match for his impressive play at the back.
