Shillong, Feb 2: Tlanding Wahlang turned back the years to set a personal best of 2 hours, 30 minutes and 51 seconds at the Kolkata Marathon, which was held today.
Tlanding Wahlang was part of a 50-member RunMeghalaya contingent that took part in the event. The youngest was 10-year-old Elythia Kharsati, with the oldest being 71-year-old Kmoinlang Wahlang.
Wahlang, who recently received the Kiang Nangbah Award for sports on 26th January, finished second in the full marathon, shaving around four minutes off his personal best. Batsrang Sangma, who wasn’t part of the RunMeghalaya contingent came third in 2:31:43.
Meanwhile, Snora Lyngkhoi came third among the women in a time of 03:46:48 and in the half marathon Dateibankynmaw Marwein was second (01:33:25) in the women’s category and Kresstarjune Pathaw was third (01:09:56) in the men’s.
According to age categories, Darishisha Iangjuh (43:43) came first in the 10km women’s 14-34 years group, while Manbha Ramsiej (01:15:39) was first in the half marathon 35-45 years group.
Kmoinlang Wahlang was second in the half marathon women’s 45+ category with a time of 1 hour, 56 minutes and 18 seconds and Swonding Mawlong (03:07:45) was second in the marathon men’s 45+ category.
In the 10km event, Trissina Wanniang (01:00:16) and Melina Nonglang (01:00:25) were second and third in the 45+ women’s category, finishing just nine seconds apart.
