Shillong, Feb 10: The Meghalaya Games, which were supposed to be held in December but which were postponed due to protests in Shillong revolving around the Citizenship Amendment Act, will be held from 17th to 21st February here.
The 14 disciplines remain, namely archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, billiards & snooker, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, wushu and judo.
Around 1,900 athletes are expected to take part. Eight venues have been selected by the organisers, the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs and Meghalaya State Olympic Association. These are the JN Sports Complex, St Anthony’s School Stadium, Nongthymmai Sports & Cultural Club, U Tirot Sing Syiem Indoor Stadium, Shillong Club, Laban SC Indoor Stadium, Crinoline Swimming Pool and Assam Regimental Centre.
The opening ceremony on 17th February will be held at the JN Sports Complex.
The Games will act as a preparatory event for the National Games 2022, which Meghalaya is supposed to host. It will also enable the MSOA and DSYA to identify talented young athletes.
