Shillong, Jan 25: Nongmensong CC set up a meeting with Rangkynsai CC in the final of the Shillong Cricket Association’s First Division 2019-20 season after defeating Meghalaya Police by three wickets here today.
Rangkynsai had defeated Sunrise CC yesterday in the first semifinal. Yesterday was the restart of the 2019-20 season, which had been halted in March last year on account of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Today, Nongmensong won the toss and put the opposition in to bat first. MLP were restricted to 171/9 in a maximum 35 overs, with Wallambok Nongkhlaw top-scoring with 50 of 74 deliveries, while Steve Syiemlieh made a run-a-ball 28. Bipin Kr Ray took 3/34 for Nongmensong.
The chase saw proceedings dominated by man-of-the-match Arpit Bhatewara (pictured right), who smashed 109 off just 84 balls as Nongmensong reached 173/7 in 32.4 overs to seal victory.
Besides securing a place in the title match, which will be held on Wednesday, Nongmensong also booked their place in the 2020-21 season of the Super Division.
