Shillong, Mar 18: The Junior and Amateur tour of the Meghalaya Golf Promoters Society, the first ever golf tour of the North East, will begin on 20th March at the Shillong Golf Course from 7:15AM.
The tour has been conceptualised and will be conducted by the MGPS, the state association for golf in Meghalaya, in association with the Shillong Club Ltd (Golf Section).The event will be played in various formats and will have some interesting events, like Longest Drive Challenge, Parent and Child event, etc. The event is supported by the Golf Trade and Champ for Life Academy. All Covid-19 safety protocols will be adhered to, the organisers said today.
In a press release, MGPS Vice-President Daniel S Jyrwa said, “We are in the process of tying up with schools for the Golf in Schools Programme by which we will be able to attract more kids to the game and produce national champions.”
Other MGPS members said that the tour will promote the sport in the state and, being a regular event, will provide motivation to improve the course playing conditions and maintain it up to the requirements of national events.
