Shillong, Apr 26: The District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills has imposed a limit on the number of spectators that can gather for outdoor sports events to curb the spread of Covid-19.
In a notice issued today, the District Magistrate said that up to 100 people or one-third of capacity can be present, whichever is less.
This limitation was issued amid several other restrictions, which included those placed on weddings, funerals and restaurants, among others. West Jaintia Hills is the third-most affected district by Covid-19 in Meghalaya, with 122 active cases as of yesterday, after East Khasi Hills (1,008 active cases) and Ri-Bhoi (131).
Last week the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills banned spectators at all sports events in the Greater Shillong area. Shillong is the area that has been affected the worst by the disease. In other parts of the state, spectator numbers are limited to 50% of capacity.
