Shillong, Dec 12: Meghalaya will host the second edition of the North East Olympics, which have been scheduled for October 2022.
This was announced by Meghalaya State Olympics Association Working President John F Kharshiing today.
The MSOA had held a special general body meeting here on Saturday where the MSOA calendar and budget for 2022 was approved.
As part of the 50th anniversary of Meghalaya’s statehood, the state government has agreed to support hosting the NE Olympics in Shillong, Kharshiing said. The North East Olympic Association had also expressed willingness for Meghalaya to hold the games in view of the golden jubilee celebrations.
Meghalaya has to make the most of holding the event on their own turf. In the first edition of the NE Olympics, in 2018, the state only finished sixth in the medals table.
Meanwhile, the MSOA also agreed to hold seminars on the Meghalaya Sports & Youth Policies and other subjects, to celebrate the annual International Olympic Day on 23rd June, to conduct programmes on National Sports Day on 29th August and to conducted a marathon in collaboration with the Meghalaya Athletics Association and Athletics Federation of India.
Others present at the meeting included MSOA Vice-President Bor Diengdoh, Vice-President Matsiewdor War Nongbri, Vice-President Ian Lyngdoh, Joint Secretary Finely Pariat and Treasurer Ksan Warjri, among others.
