Shillong, Aug 8: It isn’t everyday that India face Argentina in a football match and even rarer would be a day when an Indian player would actually score against the South American giants but Meghalaya’s Klingson Marak (standing second right) did just that recently.

Marak is a member of the Indian blind football team where he plays with another Meghalayan, Gabriel Nongrum (standing second left). You can read more about Marak and Nongrum here. Meghalaya have a strong blind football team and are the reigning national champions.

The national team were in Mexico recently where they participated in the IBSA Blind Football World Grand Prix with hosts Mexico, Costa Rica, world No. 1 team Argentina and eventual champions Brazil. Unfortunately, India lost all their matches, though the games against Mexico and Costa Rica were close contests.

Marak’s goal against Argentina, in India’s last fixture, was his team’s first of the tournament. In addition, it was the only goal Argentina conceded in normal play throughout the competition, though they went on to lose the final to Brazil 3-2 in a penalty shootout yesterday.

“Kudos to all involved and lots of learnings and experience for the players going forward!” a post by the Indian blind football team on social media said after the Argentina game.
