Shillong, Dec 13: Symper Rangers won the final of the East Khasi Hills Cricket Association’s U-13 Boys T20 Challengers Trophy in Marbisu today.
In the morning, Mawlynnong Fighters beat Laitlum Hitters by five runs. This meant that each of the three teams had won one match but, based on net run rate, Symper and Laitlum qualified for the final in the afternoon.
The title match, which was reduced to 15 overs a side due to fading light, saw the Rangers win the toss and field first and they were able to restrict the Hitters to 74/7. Mihsalan Lyngdoh top-scored with a fine 28 from 21 deliveries, while Othaniel Lyngdoh Nonglait claimed 2/12 in 3 overs.
In the chase, Symper won with three balls and four wickets to spare. Dame Wanbiang Shadap was the top scorer with 13m while Melvin Warjri bagged 1/6 in 3 overs for runners-up Laitlum.
Mihsalan was named Player of the Match and Othaniel the Player of the Tournament.
Earlier in the day, Mawlynnong won the toss and batted first, posting a total of 98/7 in 20 overs, with Paulenon Sohkhlet hitting 16 and Hamebandap War 14. Merapbor Dohling claimed 2/16 in 4 overs.
In reply, Laitlum were all out for 93 in 19.2 overs, with Hamebandap scalping 5/2, while Mekhraw Pyrkhat Pathaw made 16, Menang Shangpliang 15.
The girls’ version of this event, which will be at the U-17 level, will be held on 16th and 17th December.
