Shillong, May 7: Wapung block won both the boys’ and girls’ category finals of the U-12 Chief Minister’s District Level Football Tournament in Khliehriat on Saturday.
The tournament was conducted by the office of the District Sports Officer of East Jaintia Hills and held at Madan Deinchynrum.
The girls’ final was between Wapung and Jalaphet zone of Saipung block where the former won 1-0 thanks to a 37th minute goal by Larisha Lyngdoh.
Wapung were also involved in the boys’ final where they defeated Lumshnong block 3-1. The victors’ goals were scored by Lazio Dkhar (10′, 46′) and Khroobormi Sutnga (13′), while that of Lumshnong came from Ennocent Mylliem (17′).
The chief guest on the last day was the district’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Banraplang Jyrwa. Others present included the Deinchynrum headman Welbert Nongtdu, the DSO, school teachers, members of the East Jaintia District Sports Association and grassroots football coaches.
The winners will represent the district at the state-level tournament, which will begin on 11th June.
