Shillong, Nov 20: PFR Football Academy defeated Mylliem Lum SC 2-0 in the final of the Shillong Sports Association’s Third Division 2023 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
A goalless first half preceded the two goals, which were scored by Robi Maring (62′) and Andy Suting (70′).
PFR were unbeaten throughout the tournament, winning three and drawing one of their Group B matches before conquering their opponents in the quarterfinal and semifinal.
Both finalists will be promoted to next year’s Second Division but winning the title makes promotion all the sweeter for PFR. In fact, this is the second consecutive year that they have gained promotion, after finishing as runners-up in the previous edition of the Fourth Division in 2021.
For Mylliem Lum, this was their second loss of the year; they had won three games in Group C with one defeat. They had scored two goals each in the quarterfinal and semifinal but couldn’t come up with the goods today.
As champions, PFR were given a cheque of Rs 40,000, while Mylliem Lum took home Rs 20,000.
